I had one of these evil eye charms as a child, but never realised what it meant. I'm from Belgium and I think my mom got it for me from a charity shop - I'll have to look for it next time I go home now! 🌀
Maybe she got it from one of her neighbours or during her travels? I know Belgium also has a substantial Turkish, Greek and Middle Eastern community. Are you still wearing it? 🧿 I stopped wearing mine haha But I got a new one from a friend at the Language School in Athens for my birthday in May. Unfortunately, it ripped, but I wore it for a month.
What a lovely discovery today. I have lived 7 years in bonn and never realised there was a buddhist meditation center by the laacher see although I love going there. Meditation has been such an importsnt part of dealing with my anxiety as well. I hope you had a lot of rest and peace there. Your blue ceramics are so beautiful and I love the meaning behind it as well 💙 hi from a fellow artist from Germany ☺️
Meo 🥰 It makes me so happy that I made you discover Waldhaus. You need to check the centre out. I do all my retreats at the Waldhaus. I live in Berlin, but it’s always worth travelling to the Waldhaus for the retreats. You are so lucky that you live close to Laacher See. I love it there! My favourite teacher, who founded the centre, Paul Köppler, also gives courses and evenings in Bonn. He lives there. Definitely check him out, too. https://buddhismus-im-westen.de/https://www.paul-koeppler.de/
Thank you so much, Francesca. I’m glad you learned something new. Turkey and Greece are very superstitious countries, even the Middle East. I may even write more about it. I think that would be cool and interesting for people. Have a great Sunday 🖤
Mohika, thank you! Yes, it is a must, haha. I got a bracelet for my birthday two weeks ago in Greece while travelling. Have a great start to the week. Have a great start to the week🖤
I love the ceramics, the colour and shape 🥰 wishing you a great retreat week! Btw I’ll likely not make it to Berlin for the meet up, so sad. Looks like I’m only returning to Berlin the day after :(
Thank you so much, Carmen! Oh, that is a shame! But don't worry, I will organise another one very soon. We also have a Telegram group if you would like to join and stay up to date. Maybe I already did. Anyway, chat after my retreat 🖤
This piece and this blues are beautiful Tuğba ! The evil eye, I have heard it since I was a kid from my muslim friend. I often use the french expression about it ("ne me porte pas l'œil") although I can't say it's part of my beliefs. But it has become part of my "culture" I guess, through my friends 😊
Thank you so much, Claire! That is so cute! I’ve had other friends say the same about the evil eye. I mean that it has become part of their culture because of friends. Did you ever buy a piece, too? I mean the evil eye haha
I remember it! I'm not exactly sure but I remember it being called the Fatima hand, too. I might delve deeper into this topic because Turkey, Greece, the Middle East, and many African countries are very superstitious and have many rituals. It's been my dream to write a book one day about all these rituals in my heritage countries, but who knows, maybe in the future. Have a great start to the week, Claire 🖤
I am in Berlin Hauptbahnhof as I read this! And I love that shade of Blue. I saw a lot of things to ward of the evil eye. I bought a necklace for myself when I was in Greece last year.

I saw jewelry with this symbol many times, but I didn't know the meaning. The vase you made is very nice. I like that blue!

of your words.

Actually I was gifted a Fatma's hand (pretty sure it has other names) when I was a teenager and wore it for a long time 😊

Oh a book about it would be awesome !!

Gosshh, no way! We nearly crossed paths 🥰 where were you going?
I was in Berlin for the long weekend and I am on my way home.
Well, if you are in Berlin often, please DM me. I organise the Berlin Substack Writers meet-up. We have a telegram group. Have a good day 🖤
I *love* that colour! So rich and beautiful. Makes me think of lapis lazuli.
Thank you so much, Julia. Appreciate your comment 🖤
Leaving your baggage behind can be very healing as well. I like to think the person who owns that IKEA bag didn’t need it anymore.
I left a bag with my favourite shoes on the U7 last summer! It was a tough moment, but I guess it's good practice just to let go of things 😭🫠
